BELLUSTAR TOKYO, A Pan Pacific Hotel offers sophisticated and lavish accommodations in the heart of Tokyo’s vibrant Shinjuku district.

Tokyo is hardly lacking in accommodation options – particularly in its buzzing upscale district of Shinjuku – so any new hotel that sprouts in Japan’s capital city needs quite a bit of work to stand out against its competition. Against that backdrop is BELLUSTAR TOKYO, A Pan Pacific Hotel, which opened in the world’s largest metropolis in May last year.

Located on the upper floors of the towering TOKYU KABUKICHO TOWER – a swanky new skyscraper spanning 48 storeys and five basement floors housing anything from a cinema and live concert venue to a yokocho-style food hall – BELLUSTAR TOKYO features 97 rooms across 12 room types, including four suite and five penthouse options.

They range from the more intimate Studio King (41-48sqm) and more spacious Studio Deluxe to the Junior Corner Suite King (59sqm) – so named for the bathtub located in the room’s corner so you can soak in the panoramic views of Tokyo’s city skyline as you immerse in the tub.

Then there are the penthouses. These are large luxurious rooms, the true ‘stars’ of BELLUSTAR TOKYO. The smallest, the kaze, comes in at 113sqm, while the duplex masionettes hana and tori clocks 184sqm and 186sqm respectively. The largest? The flagship sora penthouse – also know as the Sky Villa – is 277sqm of sheer opulence, the kind booked by royalty, affluent business magnates, or top celebrities. All penthouse suites come complete with kitchen and bar, and the Sky Villa even has a spa treatment room and a jacuzzi for the ultimate indulgence.

Those configurations alone give you an idea of the kind of traveller the hotel is targeting.

BELLUSTAR TOKYO - Studio Premier King

We stayed in the far more modest Studio Premier (51-55sqm) which still drips enough luxury for most. The room is decked out tastefully in contemporary Japanese aesthetic, and comes with all the amenities you might possibly need for a comfortable stay. The living area and bedroom spaces blend seamlessly, the lounger in the former and the king-sized bed in the latter both look comfortably inviting. In between is more than enough space for you to even lay out a yoga mat (there’s one provided in your room!).

The ensuite bathroom is amazing. There’s the requisite shower and restroom stalls, as well as an expansive vanity space. But the highlight is the spacious bathtub, which you’ll be tempted to spend a lot of time in.

Like the best Tokyo hotels, the room comes flanked on one side by floor to ceiling bay windows, which gives you an incredible view of Tokyo’s cityscape particularly at night. What’s even special is that you can gaze at the glorious sight even from the bathtub, which is exactly what we did on both nights we stayed at BELLUSTAR TOKYO.

Bar BELLUSTAR - cocktails with a view

BELLUSTAR is also the name of the hotel’s signature modern French restaurant as well as the hotel bar. A visit to the Bar BELLUSTAR is highly recommended, for a couple of reasons. It’s perfect for winding down in the evenings, complete with a view to rival any rooftop bar without being exposed to the elements. The other reason? A cocktail menu with signature drinks that uniquely inspired with the use of local ingredients. The Gold$Zipangu, for example, is a Japanese-inspired French 75 named for Marco Polo’s name for Japan, while the Dashi Martini is a fantastic twist on the dirty Martini.

Verdict

Just one look at the lobby and hotel reception of sophisticated and elegant BELLUSTAR TOKYO, A Pan Pacific Hotel and you’ll understand that it targets the kind of traveller seeking privacy and luxury in equal measure. The hotel’s proximity to Shinjuku Station is an added bonus, as is having Kabukicho and Shinjuku Golden Gai within easy reach for those looking for entertainment. Hoi polloi need not sign up.
