Benjamin Hasko MS appointed Group Head Sommelier at CÉ LA VI

CÉ LA VI announces the appointment of Benjamin Hasko MS as its new Group Head Sommelier, who replaces the recently-departed Mathias Camilleri MS.

CÉ LA VI has announced the appointment of Benjamin Hasko as its new Group Head Sommelier. Hasko will be leading the team of sommeliers at CÉ LA VI and curating a list of wines that further complements and elevates the service and offerings at the various luxury entertainment establishments operated by CÉ LA VI in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei, such as its iconic rooftop lounge and restaurant atop Marina Bay Sands.

Hasko comes with over a decade of experience in the wine trade, and the Australian native was one of only six sommeliers to receive the prestigious Master Sommelier title from the Court of Master Sommeliers in October 2016. He also managed to successfully complete the examination on the first attempt, earning him the inaugural Dom Ruinart Cup to commemorate this momentous achievement.

Hasko started his journey in the wine industry working as a sommelier in 2009 at Sydney’s Rockpool on George followed by a stint at Vue de Monde in Melbourne. Prior to joining CÉ LA VI he worked as Director at Sydney-based Luxury Beverage Group for six years, developing and managing the portfolio of around 60 producers from nine countries.

The newly-appointed Hasko takes over from French-Singaporean Mathias Camilleri MS, who moved from London to join CÉ LA VI in May last year but left in July this year. Camilleri is also one of the few to hold the prestigious Master Sommelier designation, an accolade held by less than 270 people globally.

Hasko joins an increasing number of highly-experienced wine professionals to have moved to Singapore in recent time. For example, Roberto Duran moved from London luxury wine club 67 Pall Mall to Singapore two years ago to head the wine programme at the new defunct three Michelin-starred Joël Robuchon followed by a stint at Bacchanalia by Vianney Massot. Duran has just been tapped to helm 67 Pall Mall’s Singapore location, which may also see at least one additional Master of Wine enter Singapore’s wine industry when it opens up end next year.
