Roku Gin celebrates this year’s spring season with six special collaborations showcasing seasonal cocktails and food pairings.

It’s springtime! Well, at least it is in Japan. To celebrate the arrival of spring, leading Japanese gin brand Roku Gin has partnered with six bars and restaurants across Singapore to create exclusive offerings, such limited-time seasonal cocktails, special dishes meant for pairing, and even cocktail making masterclasses.

Gin lovers would know that award-winning Roku Gin is the hero gin product from the House of Suntory. And among the special botanicals used in the gin’s making are leaves and flowers of the sakura, Japan’s iconic cherry blossom trees that bloom during spring. The addition of sakura lends a layer of floral complexity to the mix, complementing the top note from yuzu peel, and the mild spiciness of sansho pepper in its finish.

Taki Izakaya Bar Roku Gin Spring Pairing
Taki Izakaya Bar’s exclusive Roku Gin spring menu features three thematic cocktails paired with specially curated dishes.

Perfect pairing at Taki Izakaya Bar

One of the collaborations is an exclusive pairing menu at recently-opened Taki Izakaya Bar. The seasonal menu features three specially concocted cocktails, each of which can come paired with a dish designed to pair with the tipple.

There’s Spring Equinox, a fruity gin sour that you can enjoy with Hanami, a dish of kanpachi (amberjack) sashimi doused in a viscous ponzu sauce. Me & U is a Japanese twist on the classic Negroni using umeshu in place of vermouth; the recommended pairing is Kogane Matsuri, featuring karei flat fish grilled and smoked in applewood and genmaicha to enhance its delicate flavours. Then there’s spirit-forward Sloe Dancing, made with a blend of Roku Gin and a sloe gin. Its pairing is Spring Garden, a savoury rice dish topped with maitake mushrooms and carrots.

This Roku Gin spring menu at Taki Izakaya Bar runs from 5 April to 15 May 2021.

VUE’s Roku Gin spring cocktail menu consists of six different cocktails, including (left to right) Sen’ Nohana, Roku Gin & Tonic, and Ichigo Sawa.

Spring drinking at VUE

Roku Gin has also partnered with fine-dining rooftop grill house and bar VUE to create six limited-time seasonal cocktails for the month of April.

The Roku Gin spring cocktail menu include the classic Roku Gin & Tonic, the strawberry gin sour that is Ichigo Sawa, and the fruity purple-hued Sen’ Nohana. We also enjoyed the intricate balance of the Gin Bellini Japanese Harmony, while the Last Samurai, with its Chartreuse will appeal to those who enjoy a touch of herbal bitterness. And if you have a sweet tooth, the tropical sweetness of soursop in the S.S. Okinawa is what you’re looking for.

These Roku Gin spring cocktails will be available at VUE from now until end April 2021.
