Graft8 by Grand Vin is a wine bar at Sheraton Towers Singapore with an impressive range of fine wines for the discerning oenophile.
Once a staid place for resting travellers, in recent years the hotel lounge is increasingly transformed into exciting contemporary watering holes. Think hotel-based, award-winning cocktail bars such as Regent Singapore’s Manhattan, Jigger & Pony at Amara Singapore, and recently, Republic Bar at Ritz Carlton Millennia Singapore, for example.
But while many hotel bars pivot their nightlife offerings to tap into Singapore’s burgeoning cocktail culture, some instead adopt a tried and tested approach – by focusing on wine. We’ve seen wine lounge Grand Cru Wine Concierge open up at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, while Regent Singapore converts its lobby lounge (which serves high tea in the afternoons) into fine wine bar Park90 in the evenings.
And now there’s a new hotel-based wine bar in town.
Fine wine importer and distributor Grand Vin has taken over part of what is the Lobby Bar at Sheraton Towers Singapore on Scotts Road, and has converted the space into fine wine bar Graft8. Graft8, also known as Graft Bar, features a wine list that should satisfy most oenophiles.
As the wine bar effectively acts as a showroom for Grand Vin, Graft8’s small but well-composed wine menu is a notch above what you can normally find at most other hotel bars. You’re looking at a world-class collection of more than a hundred wines curated by accredited sommelier Manda Oei that include names like Loire Valley’s Domaine Vacheron, Michel Bouzereau and Faiveley of Burgundy, and Australia’s Penfolds, among others. There are some big names here too if you’re looking to splurge – Louis Roederer Cristal champagne, Tuscany’s Sassicaia, Napa cult favourite Hundred Acre, and even Bordeaux’s Lafite Rothschild and Petrus if price is no matter.
Wines are available both by the glass – they use the Coravin system – as well as by the bottle.
What does set Graft8 apart from other hotel-based wine bars is also a lineup of wine discovery masterclasses. They run ‘Tasting Thursdays’, a series of guided tastings running every Thursday that explore wines across verticals, regions and varietals. Other promotions include ‘BYO Nights’ – buy a bottle and BYO one free – on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Wednesday ‘Ladies LV Nights’ where ladies enjoy a complimentary 500ml bottle of Los Vascos Sauvignon Blanc 2018 for every group of five guests.
We don’t normally find ourselves at Sheraton Towers Singapore, but now there’s good reason to.
