There’s a new cocktail bar in town, except it’s not really within Singapore’s city environs. Legends Bar at Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore may just be Singapore’s easternmost drinking hole with a dedicated range of cocktails.
Unless you’re there for a staycation – or to putt some holes at the adjoining Laguna National Golf Resort Club – there’s little reason to drop into recently-opened Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore. Or is there? Well, we found a good one – Legends Bar, five-star luxury urban resort’s resident watering hole.
Let’s face it – most resort bars are middling at best. They are the kind of place where you’re almost always better off just ordering a beer than any drink that requires more than two ingredients. Between the use of cheap spirits, commercial pre-mixes and artificial fruit juices, your order is just going to turn out to be a very poor representation of the cocktail you think you ordered.
Not quite so at Legends Bar.
Occupying part of the contemporary Asian restaurant dining space in the resort’s lobby, the bar oozes the kind of casual coziness and tropical rainforest vibes that will appeal to thirsty golfers resting from a particularly arduous round to staycationing couples looking for a quiet, intimate time together. As befitting of a bar pretty much located next to a golf course, the cocktails at Legends Bar are inspired by golf, and golfing legends, in particular. They come with a bit of Dusit Thani as well, infusing a touch of Thai influence into the drinks. And in case you were wondering – all the cocktails came with proper bar ice, certainly a reassuring sign.
There’s Daly Smash – obviously named after inspired by two-time Major champion John Daly who was famous for his powerful swings. i.e smashes. This refreshing tipple is a twist on the classic Gimlet, with some chili padi tincture for some heat and tang. Or how about the Long Banana, supposedly a hat tip to the long drives of retired legend Jack Nicklaus? This sees banana-infused rum combined with oloroso sherry and smoked maple syrup for a take on the Rum Old Fashioned.
If you enjoy your Margaritas, there’s Velvet Grips, a tropical riff on the classic. Tequila, cachaca, guava-infused agave and citrus come together for flavour and intensity. Those more old school may prefer Hickory Shaft, Legend Bar’s twist on the Old Fashioned. A hint of lemongrass comes through in their version, which is refreshingly different.
Make sure you avail yourself some bar bites too. You did come all the way to this part of Singapore, after all. Both the Peek Gai Tod Nam Pla and Moo Ping – Thai-style deep-fried chicken wings and grilled pork skewers, respectively – make for perfect snacking with your beer or cocktails. If you’re just grazing, the Kab Moo, or pork scratchings, and the Rak Baw of spiced crispy lotus root are just the thing.

Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore may be located in the far-flung eastern reaches of Singapore, but Legends Bar may just have provided those who live in the East a new local.
