London’s Connaught Bar takes the No.1 spot on World’s 50 Best Bars 2021 in a field that sees six Singapore bars muscle their way onto the list.

London’s Connaught Bar was again crowned No.1 on World’s 50 Best Bars 2021 in a live awards ceremony in London last evening. Singapore bars claimed a total of six spots in the awards’ 13th edition, more than any other city in the world, cementing its position as one of the world’s most vibrant cocktail destinations. However ‘The Best Bar in Asia’ title went to Hong Kong’s COA, which improved on its standings this year from No.8 to No.7.

The six Singapore bars that entered into top 50 of the World’s 50 Best Bars 2021 list (vs their 2020 positions) are:

  • Jigger & Pony (No.9)/(No.9)
  • Manhattan (No.15)/(No.14)
  • ATLAS (No.16)/(No.4)
  • No Sleep Club (No.26)/(No.53)
  • MO BAR (No.36)/(new entry)
  • Tippling Club (No.43)/(reentry)

Earlier, The World’s 50 Best Bars also released the winners of its 51-100 2021 list. The secondary rankings saw Singapore co-lead Asia with China, both of which have three bars each across five countries in the region. The Singapore bars that entered the 51-100 World’s 50 Best Bars 2021 list are:

  • Sago House (No.63)
  • 28 HongKong Street (No.71)
  • Barbary Coast (No.81)

MO BAR at Mandarin Oriental debuts on this year’s top 50 at No.36.

No Sleep Club and MO BAR continue to be the promising stars in Singapore’s cocktail bar scene. No Sleep Club, which surprised everyone by leaping to the No.8 spot last year on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2021 earlier this year, jumped 27 spots from No.51 to No.26. Mandarin Oriental Singapore’s MO BAR too – it picked up the ‘Art of Hospitality Award’ and the No.45 spot at Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2021, and finally debuts this year on the World’s 50 Best Bars list at No.36.

“The World’s 50 Best Bars list remains an ultimate international reference guide to the
world’s top bars and drinking destinations. Winning this incredible accolade for the first time bears testimony to the hardworking and passionate team at MO BAR, and it further
celebrates the continuous support of our team, loyal guests, partners and friends,” said
Adrian Besa, Bar Manager of MO BAR.

But it’s rocky times for most other Singapore bars, likely from prolonged enforced COVID restrictions that crippled much of the hospitality and travel industries in most of Asia in the past year. While Jigger & Pony clung tenuously to its No.9 spot, fellow shining lights Manhattan and ATLAS have fallen in their rankings. Most shockingly, Singapore’s beloved Native has fallen off the main and extended list altogether, along with The Old Man Singapore, and Gibson.

“We want to send all the venues on the 2021 list of The World’s 50 Best Bars huge congratulations. It’s been another incredibly tough year for hospitality and the industry’s resilience and togetherness through these challenges is humbling. We hope that the positive stories around the bars’ success in the awards will help to drive vital business in the weeks and months to come,” said Mark Sansom, Content Editor for The World’s 50 Best Bars.
